Marcello Canitano was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in a
middle-class family in Florida. While in high school, he began tinkering
with hot rods, computers, and remote control organized racing events. By
the time he entered college, racing automobiles had become his primary
hobby. Starting out in a street car in solo autocross events, Marcello
began working his way up the ladder of racing. After a two year stint in
SCCA Solo II and NHRA Drag Racing, Marcello started driving for Malabar
Exxon, driving their Improved Touring Datsun in SCCA Regional competition.
In 1994, Marcello purchased a restaurant,
and successfully ran it for over two years before selling it in 1996.
This gave him insight into running a successful business, as well as how
to respond and act towards the public. During this period, with finances
tight, he entered into partnership with another SCCA driver to form No
Excuses Racing. This partnership taught him many things about racing, and
gave him the opportunity to compete in SCCA regional competition in his
own race car. At the beginning of the 1998 season, Marcello purchased his
partner’s share of the team and decided that his future would be in
professional motorsports. Since that time, he has been updating and
modernizing his team to make it more competitive, and racing at every
opportunity in the Southeast to gain exposure for his team.
Interestingly, Marcello has also been
involved in professional motion pictures; with scenes in the film
Armageddon, starring Bruce Willis; the critically acclaimed HBO
series, From the Earth to the Moon, directed by Tom Hanks;
and starring in commercials for Disney’s newest venture, Downtown
Disney WestSide. His photogenic nature lends itself to public
appearances, and his college education and lack of distinct accent make
him an excellent spokesperson for any company.
Marcello Canitano is also available for select
driving engagements outside of those required by his commitment to
SilverHorse Racing, both as a test driver and as a driver for other team's
racing efforts. Interested parties may contact him via email at
DriverInfo@SilverHorseRacing.com to discuss their specific goals.
With intimate knowledge of both competition driving and many of the tracks
in the Southeast, he is a perfect choice to assist your racing program,
and can maintain the strictest confidence in regards to the results of any
testing or racing programs.
